|
Rand Rudland is a medical doctor who has spent 27
years in rural general practice on BC's Sunshine Coast, as well as in the
Canadian Arctic, Northwest Territories, Churchill, Manitoba (great
birding), and numerous small towns around BC.
Rand has been aboard the MV "World Discoverer" as ship physician on numerous tours to the Antarctic and Aleutians. He developed a passion for the outdoors at a young age growing up in the small town of Fort Fraser, BC. He began guiding at the young age of 12, starting off with fishing tours from his grandparents resort. He honed his whitewater skills on the local rivers and then spent 12 seasons rafting as a head boatman for both Canadian River Expeditions and Whitewater Adventures on such famous rivers at the Fraser, Thompson, Chilcotin, Chilco, and Nahanni. After an honours degree in Biology and Forest Ecology at UBC he completed his medical training at UBC and McGill. Other than North America, Rand has birded in Cuba, Belize, Yucatan, Panama, Chile, Antarctica, Falklands, South Georgia, New Zealand, Eastern Russia, the Aleutians, Japan, Guam, Maug, and others. He has a particular interest in digiscoping, and loves to share his appreciation of the environment and knowledge of forest ecology with anyone interested.
